Hands Framing Kitchen Idea

Did you know that eclecticism is one of the most popular styles of home decor?

"Eclectic" is a fancy word that means someone is taking inspiration from a wide range of sources. This is often a great choice for people who can't choose a single decorative style. Whatever you go with, things can start getting expensive quite quickly.

Are you wondering what you can do to avoid breaking the bank? Keep reading to learn all about 5 DIY new home decorating tips.

1. Use Mirrors To Open Up Rooms

When it comes to home decorating, you should consider having at least one mirror in every room of your home. While this idea might feel like too much at first, you'll notice how much a mirror can make a room look even more spacious.

No one likes feeling claustrophobic in their own home. Mirrors give the illusion of more open spaces. This is especially true of full-length mirrors.

Plus, mirrors can become their own decorative statement depending on their shape, their frame, or both. The beauty of mirrors is that they come in all shapes, sizes, and styles, so it shouldn't be difficult to find ones that fit with your theme.

2. Revamp Your Stairs

If you want to  decorate houses like a pro, then you should consider completing a project that will add a whole new life to your old staircase. You should first make sure that your stairs are still holding up. The last thing you'd want to do is beautify them even though the structure isn't sound.

If they're just a bit worn and torn but still sound, then it's time to invest in the wonder of staircase stickers. These are made from resilient vinyl that you can stick on to the forward-facing portion of each stair. You can either go with a single colour or mix colours up to make an eye-catching statement.

Do your stairs have carpet? If you're feeling brave, you could rip up the carpet and see if there is some beautiful wood hiding beneath. One possibility involves sanding and smoothing down the wood so that it looks as fresh as possible.

After you've sanded it down, you can then lacquer it for a sleek and glistening look or paint it.

3. Create A Reading Nook

One of the best decorating tips involves upping the ante on the coziness factor. Few images are more comforting than the idea of curling up with a good book while it rains outside and the fireplace crackles. Whether or not you have a fireplace, you can still invest in a super-comfortable reading nook.

The most important thing you'll need for your nook is a reading chair or another piece of furniture that can allow you to lean back or even lie down. Be sure to include one or more pillows and a big, soft blanket.

A small table can allow you to have a drink at hand, such as a hot cup of cocoa or a nightcap. It would also be a great place to put a reading lamp. For the best lighting, you can invest in a standing lamp that can be adjusted no matter what position you find yourself reading in.

Don't forget to have a nice selection of books. Nothing makes a reading nook feel perfect more than a small bookcase nearby that contains some of your  favourite books and the ones you're most looking forward to reading.

4. Give The Feeling Of A Higher Ceiling

Are you stumped about how to decorate homes? In some cases, you might find yourself with a ceiling that feels a bit too low. While it's not practical to tear everything down and build it back up again, you can use pro tricks to make a ceiling feel higher than it is.

For instance, if you install the curtain rods of a window higher than the actual window, then that gives the impression of taller windows and a higher ceiling. Of course, you don't want to put the curtains too high up or they won't look right. Since most curtains are around 85 inches in length, you could get away with installing the rod around 3 inches higher than the position of your windows.

You could always order custom curtains if you need something longer. That way, you can put them as high as you'd like. If you want to take the illusion further, you could get curtain panels with vertical stripes on them.

Aside from using the illusion of high curtains, you can also paint your ceiling white. This is a simple project that can go a long way toward giving the impression of a higher ceiling.

5. Invest In A Bed Canopy

Simply put, home decorating doesn't have to be complicated. By installing a canopy over your bed, you can easily turn your bedroom into something that looks fit for a king and queen.

Canopies can also make your sleeping experience feel a lot cozier. After all, you'll have beautiful and sheer fabric flowing around you like a cloud.

The good news is that there are tons of different canopies to choose from. This makes it easy to stay true to whatever your decorative theme is.

Anyone who loves a minimalist style will fall head over heels for a canopy made from white gauze.
