Kitchen

A unique feature Multi-Area Developments customers take advantage of is our on-site décor centre and design consultant.

Our interior designer works with you, room-by-room, to ensure your new Summit Park home looks and feels just how you want it.

For many homeowners, the kitchen is a focal point because it must be attractive and functional.

At the same time, it needs to be contemporary enough so it doesn’t go out of style within a few years.

With that in mind, here’s how our design expert helps bring your kitchen dream to life.

Phase 1: Review the kitchen layout

The heart of the kitchen is something called “the working triangle”, which consists of three key elements:

  • Stove.
  • Refrigerator.
  • Sink.
These components have to work well together. It should be easy for you to grab an item from the fridge, bring it to the sink, and then check what’s cooking on the stove.

So our interior design consultant will ask you things like how you like to work in the kitchen and where appliances should be located.

Other things you’ll talk about include:

  • Do you want a built-in fridge or oversized unit? If it’s the latter, that’ll be incorporated into the layout.
  • Kitchen island configuration. Do you want to use your island for preparing food, or as an extra seating and eating area?

Phase 2: Additional upgrades

It’s the small touches which make a big difference in the overall atmosphere of your kitchen.

You and your design consultant will discuss adding extra upgrades, such as:

  • Crown molding.
  • Valance with lighting for under the upper cabinets
  • Glass cabinet doors.
  • Build-out units.
  • Upper corner cabinets at a 45° angle and a pie-cut base cabinets.
  • Drawers for pots and pans.
  • Garbage and/or spice rack pull-outs.

Phase 3: Cabinet colours

Multi-Area Developments proudly uses Frendel Kitchen Limited as our supplier.

There are four colour categories for you to choose from:

  • Laminate colours.
  • Oak colours.
  • Maple colours.
  • Paint colours.
With over 50 colours available, our interior designer will help you select the right one for your kitchen.

  • Kitchen island configuration. Do you want to use your island for preparing food, or as an extra seating and eating area?

Phase 4: Cabinet door style

Once you’ve decided on the colours of your cabinetry, the next step is to pick the door style you want.

Standard door styles from Multi-Area Developments are:

Manchester: This is a shaker-style cabinet door.
Camden: An attractive door featuring a recessed panel with an inside edge. Ideal if you want to create a “transitional” look for your kitchen.
Toronto: Includes a recessed panel and both inside and outside edge detailing. Perfect if you want a traditional feel for your kitchen.
Slab Door: A flat panel door with no rails (horizontal frames) or stiles (vertical frames) for a sleek and modern appearance.
Now, if you’re looking for something outside of the standard door options, you can choose to upgrade to a large selection of doors styles that may include: :

Recessed.
Raised.
Squared.
Arched panel doors with additional edge detailing.

Phase 5: Select the material and finish for your cabinet doors

You have three materials to choose from:

Maple: If you’ve plan on using your kitchen quite frequently and extensively, maple is a tough and durable material. Its natural cream-white colour combination adds a unique element of delicate attractiveness.
Oak: With oak, your kitchen will enjoy an old-world, traditional atmosphere to it. It’s perfect if you want to create a cozy/homey feeling. Red oak is light brown in colour, while white oak is a striped grain with pockets of colour.
Laminate: An affordable, practical choice, laminate is available in a large spectrum of solid colours. This allows for incredible versatility and creativity when designing your kitchen.
Thermofoil: If you imagine your cabinets experiencing heavy use each day, thermofoil is a wise option. It’s tough, easy to clean, and enjoys a natural wooden look. Thermofoil is also ideal for custom shapes such as arches.
Then, you can choose to upgrade to traditional paint, glazing, or brushstrokes for the finish of your kitchen cabinet doors.

Phase 6: Kitchen countertops

Your kitchen countertops have a dual purpose.

Firstly, they must look good and match the rest of your kitchen décor. The last thing you want is for them to clash with your cabinetry.

Secondly, they need to be tough to handle things like hot plates, heavy pots, and the occasional spill.

Laminate with a 4” ledgeback and rounded edge is the standard choice for your Summit Park home.

However, if you’re looking for something different, you can upgrade to granite or quartz.

Choose granite if….

You’ll be doing heavy cooking and food prep.
You want something heat and scratch resistant.
You want something truly unique (no two granite slab designs are alike).
Choose quartz if…

You’re looking to create a sophisticated appearance in your kitchen.
You want something that’s easy to clean and care for.
You want to maintain colour consistency throughout your countertops.
Should you decide on granite or quartz, our design consultant will help you choose the edge (flat, ogee flush, beveled, waterfall) you wish to incorporate.

Phase 8: Cabinetry hardware

Nothing brings a kitchen together quite like the hardware. Things like handles, knobs, and hinges can create that sense of completeness.

At Multi-Area Developments, there are standard or upgrade options available for your Summit Park home.

Phase 9: Plumbing fixtures

Your kitchen automatically comes with a standard double-bowl drop-in stainless steel sink.

That’s augmented by a single hose pull out with dual spray action. It’s the perfect workspace when you’re handing multiple tasks (such as soaking dishes in one basin and washing veggies in another).

Once again, if you’re looking for something different, you can upgrade to other sink and faucet styles.

Visit Summit Park to see it all for yourself.

The best way to truly see what’s possible with your kitchen is to check out our model homes or visit our design centre located at our Summit Park Sales Centre.
